Lawson Band
Do you wish your child could learn to play an instrument? Does your child already play an instrument but would like to be in a band? If so, the Lawson Band was formed with you in mind. For those of you who haven't heard of us, the Lawson Band was established for homeschool students as well as others who don't have a band program at their school. This year we will have 2 bands, Level I for beginners who have not had any band/instrument experience and Level II for students who have at least one year experience with an instrument. Our Level I band will be directed by Dr. Greg Lindahl who is the Assistant Professor of Music Education/Conductor of Wind Ensemble at Converse College. Mr. John Holloway will be working with our Level II band again this year and has 30 years of experience teaching band in the public school system. We will also have Frank Watson, George Wenger and Cliff Sutton working with our sectionals. The experience that these five gentlemen have in performing and teaching is extensive and enables us to offer a program that cannot be matched. The Lawson Band parent/student meeting for new students is coming up on August 23rd at 7:00 PM in The Alia Lawson Pre-College building on the campus of Converse College. Courtesy of Music and Arts, students will be able to try out different instruments with the help of our staff in order to help decide which instrument they would like to play. Parents will be able to meet with our staff, learn more about our program, explore instrument rental options, and register for the band. Band meets every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 for 13 weeks each semester. The cost to participate in band is a mere $200 per year. That breaks down to $7.50 per two-hour session. You can't find a better deal than that! If you would like more information in the meantime or need directions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by phone at 864-595-1023 or by email at MaestroMom@bellsouth.net.
