I am always on a search for new ways to encourage reading in my children. This summer, we will travel through the universe! How, you may ask? Simple! I set up a mural on my wall. Starting in their space ships, (On the Sun), the children will travel from planet to planet as they read books. To start out with, the boys can reach Mercury by reading 5 books. Then, we will study about Mercury. On to Venus, and 5 books later, we will study about Venus! Once to Mars, travel becomes a little more expensive, so we need to read 10 books to get to Jupiter.

I want to encourage the boys during the trip so, I plan to create prizes for every other planet. They will be allowed to choose from book marks, book lights, journal books, games, etc. But they must first reach the designated planet. (Ex. Mercury will have the book marks! Jupiter will have book lights, etc)
