When Legacy was established, we decided to offer courses to homeschoolers that would help meet their needs for core subjects. We have offered a wide range of classes from Biology to Physiology, History and Language Arts. We have met a lot of new families and it has been a great privilege personally for me. But I also know that there is a time and a season for everything and our time as this type of Co-op has come to an end.

But where one door closes another opens and we will kicking off our newest Legacy Homeschool Co-Op on Thursday 1/26/2012 at 9:00 am. Here us just a sneak preview of what is happening!

The Great Science Experience:
With the use of Handbook of Nature Study , (download your free copy) we will be exploring our great county and state! We will make our own plant presses, plant a garden, go bird watching, and learn about insects. On field trips, we plan on making plaster casts of animal tracks, learn to go camping, protecting the environment and so much more. Those who have an interest in photography can express themselves through photos and a scrap book. Artist, grab your own paint and pencils and capture what you see on paper. Authors, put your pen to the test! Describe what you see.

For those parents who want this to be a graded activity, you will need to come up with activities or writing assignments for our own kids. Suggestions will be available but we are not here to grade, we are here to teach and allow the students to engage in their environments, WHILE HAVING FUN!

We are also looking at adding in a history component to this group as well but I guess you will have to either keep watching for announcements here or you will need to come to our meeting on Thursday!

Getting excited about our first day!!!!!!!

I have listed several resources for each family if you want to create a nature journal for your children and a flower/leaf press on our other page. Just check for the link on the right side of this blog. It is scheduled to possible rain on Thursday, so we will work on making our journals, reviewing options and setting up our first field trip. We have copy paper for those who need to make their journals! We also have cardboard for those who plan on making the presses and I think I have newspaper that everyone can use as well. Just need the wood cut to the right sizes. Our flower presses will be 12 x 12 inches.

Don't forget, this is parent lead. That means your voice and ideas are necessary for the success of this group. If you have a suggestion of where we can go as a group and enjoy the morning or afternoon, let us know on Thursday! I know that I want to go tubing down the Green River again once it gets warmer. I also love Table Rock for hikes and Rainbow Falls. We can go to Kings Mt. Battle Field for a history based trip and to Cowpens for the same.

We can schedule trips to the Zoo, Aquariums, and even trips to Wonder Works located in Myrtle Beach (My boys suggestion) . We may have scheduled outings to restaurants to have a taste of foreign foods. Guest Speakers that share about their home land and so much more.

Good Morning Everyone. It has been a long time since I have updated this blog and I apologize about that. Legacy Homeschool Co-Op is open for registration for its Fall and Spring Semesters. This year, we have a lot to offer and some of the most outstanding teachers that can be found. Cost per student is $15.00 and you will need to purchase the curriculum for your children.

Classes begin at 9 am and will continue to 11:30 am. We have classes for everyone and even a nursery. The schedule is as follows:

As you can see we have something for everyone but you must hurry to get a seat.

Grand opening for classes is SEPTEMBER 1, 2011 at Restoration Church International in Gaffney SC.
This will be a meet and greet day and a great time to have some fun!

We are looking at a field trip to the Green River in North Carolina in September. Cost will be no more than $7.00 per person to tube down this river. It is a two hour trip but be prepared for a minimum of three hours to four hours. Dates will be announced and sign up forms will be available on September 1.

We will also inform everyone of potential trips for the Spring! OH YEAH! We may be going back!!!!!!! We will talk about costs and ideas from the group. It is going to be a great year!

Apologia Biology for the highschooler. We are using a site called Moodle for homeroom assignments/quizzes and emams. We will also host game days and review days in the online classroom via Elluminate. Labs are complete at our facility at Restoration Church Internation.
Human Physiology and Anatomy by Jeannie Fulbright - will host interactive labs, notebooking exercise and much more. 4th through 7th grades.
Astronomy by Jeannie Fulbright for the 1st through 3rd grade students. Everything from arts and crafts to writing will be covered.
We have a k4 - k5 class also that will also teach the ABC, counting and much more using Abeka.

If you are interested, you need to contact us immediately so that we can get you enrolled in these classes. There are classroom fees to cover the arts and craft exercies and lab fees for the older students. There is also a $15 dollar per student to help pay for rental of the facility. Discounts available for larger families.

Course Description:

This class is designed for 4th-7th graders. The class will include weekly/bi monthly quizzes, end of chapter(s) test, mid term exam and final exam. Also, labs will be incorporated into the lessons to enhance learning.
The 5th-7th grade students will be required to do extra course work such as extra reading, special projects, quizzes/test tailored to their academic level, etc.

This Semester, Kathy Phillips will be teaching Biology using Apologia's Biology Textbook. This text is designed for a 10th grade level student but it will be offered to those who either feel that they are ready for this course to those who need it to complete the high school experience. Labs are being added to this course!

There will be limited seating for this class. It will be based on a first come, first serve basis. Prior to enrolling, please look at class requirements and materials needed!

Every Student MUST have the textbook and accompanying materials!
Two notebooks. One for lab and one for class notes. These will be graded!
Microscope. A student microscope can be purchased at Home Science Tools.
Lab Specimen ... We will order these as a group when it is needed. This will give us a small discount.
Prepared lab slides for this course. Can be purchased at Home Science Tools as well.
A classroom Fee of $15.00 per student to help cover cost of clean up and usage.

Hi Everyone!
We are working hard to set up the curriculum for next year. Our emphasis will be on Science next year, so get READY!

Biology with Labs will be offered to out 9th - 12th grade students. This will be a three hour long class with a break in the middle of the class. First half of the class will be lecture will the second half will be lab work! The fee has not been set at this point but we will use the Apologia Biology Second Edition book.
Apologia's Newest Science book by Jeannie Fulbright "Human Physiology and Anatomy" will be taught for our 4th through 7th graders. This class will also host a lab. For the 4th - 5th graders, you will need to purchase the notebook that accompanies the book. This class will last for 1 1/2 hours.
For the second class for this age group will be Keyboarding (Typing). We are looking at programs needed for this class and will announce it later.
The 1st - 3rd graders - will take the Apologia's Astromony by Jeannie Fulbright. There are scheduled class periods for activities that will support learning of the plants.
Second class will be music appreciation for beginners. You will need a small keyboard for this class and get ready to SING SING SING!
K4 - K5 will have learning activities revolving around Astronomy as they learn numbers, numbers, shapes and colors!

So as you can see, we have a lot to offer! We will hopefull host an open house and registration in July or August. Please stay tuned for futher details!

Next week, April 8th, we are on Spring Break! We hope each of you have a great time off and we hope you all get some rest.

April 15th, is our last "TEACHING" day at the Co-op.

April 22nd, we are planning our Family Fun Day. Good Times and Good food always go together! This will also be our final day at Co-Op for most of our families.

UPDATES!

Spring Break has been moved to April 8th.

UNIT 3 US History Test will be on April 1, 2010.

US History Class is planning a trip to Cowpen's Battlefield on March 25th. We will share more information concerning this trip next week during announcements.

If you are planning on testing your 3rd - 12th grader this year, remember that you can order your tests this month. An informational email has been sent out to all of our families. If you should need any additional information, please contact us via email.

Coming up is scheduling of the IOWA Standardized testing.

After March 5th, you may use the tester number that we have available and order your test. The only guidelines that we have is that your child must be in the 3rd grade or above. Each parent is responsible for ordering their own tests. With the use of the tester number, all the tests will be sent at one time to my attention withing two weeks of the actual test date.

There is a fee of $4.00 per person (due at time of testing) to help cover the cost of mailing these tests back to BJUPress. Once they have been mailed back to BJUPress, your test will be returned to you withing 4 - 6 weeks.

This is open only to members of Legacy Homeschool Co-op at this time.

Warning! This post may not be grammatically correct! I am tired! VERYYYYYYY TIRED now!

I apologize for all of the changes that were made in the schedule today. With Spanish now cancelled, I was forced to make changes immediately. Thank you for working with me and being patient.

For the 8th - 12th grade classes... you will have Movies as Literature for the first two periods and then music theory class.

4th - 7th graders - First period - US History. Secondly period will be Sign Language one week and History Activities the next. The last period will be Music Theory.

1st through 3rd graders - Sign Language 1st period, Spanish Art one week and then other activities the following week. Last class will be as follows. First thirty minutes - music theory class and then Mystery of History.

You will need the following items for the music theory class: 1 - three ring binder, plastic sheet protectors and paper. If you have a keyboard, please bring it. If it can be run on batteries, please install batteries and use it. We are looking into a technique book that the group can use. We will look at order as a group to get a group discount. More will be discussed next week at Co-Op.

I am looking forward to a great semester and once again thank you for all of your help and understanding.

Legacy Homeschool Cooperative will begin its Spring Session, starting on January 21, 2010. Applications can be obtained on the first day of Co-Op. Fees are as follows. $15.00 per student. A family fee of $10.00 for families who participated in our Co-Op all of last semester. Families joining us fo rhe Spring Semester will be required to pay a $20.00 family fee as well.

So, if you have three children your fee will be:

$45.00 + family fee.

Amount due on first day of the Co-Op.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

YES! We are having Co-op this Thursday and it is going to be a lot of fun. All families are asked to bring two items. One is a something sweet to eat and then something that is not sweet to eat. I prefer finger foods but do what ever you feel like.

We will begin the Co-Op at

9:30 am.

This will allow everyone enough time to get to the Co-op without feeling hurried. Don't worry, I will be there at 8:30 if anyone would like to show up early. :-)

Hi Everyone! What a week! I wanted to personally welcome our new members who joined us this past week. We are so excited about both of these families joining our family and we look forward to getting to know both of you as time goes by!.

Well, guys! This is our last week teaching week at Co-Op. I cannot believe that we have already made it through this semester... After Thursday, we will take Thanksgiving Day off and come back on December 3 for our LEGACY HOMESCHOOL CO-OP CHRISTMAS PARTY! We are asking that all families plan to bring one finger food and one dessert for this party. Come and enjoy in all that we have accomplished and get to know everyone even better.

We have had a great time at Co- Op today.

To all parents, it is extremely important that you contact the Co-op or a member of the Co-op if you are going to be out. Every person is important and your absence is greatly felt. Also, without prior knowledge of your absence, we can not make plans to have your position replaced.

Secondly, make sure that you bring your child ready for Co-Op. Have pencils sharpened and ready. Assist your child in getting their first period books out along with notebooks. This will limit the time that we normally spend on finding papers and getting ready during class.

Finally, please attempt to get to the Co-op by 8:45 am each morning. This helps in getting the information out in a timely fashion and classes are started on time.

I am sorry for my absence this past Thursday but the good news is, Matthew is much better today. Thank you for all of your prayers and concerns.

Upcoming Events:

I want to postpone the field trip to Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens until October 1. The reason, there needs to be more organization and there is limited time to get it done between now and Thursday. If you are in disagreement with this, please email me. If not, I will have a signup sheet on Thursday along with carpooling lists. Money will need to be turned in on Thursday as well.

Self-guided visits must be pre-arranged and require a minimum of 15 people to receive discounted admission, $8 per adult, $4 per child 4-12; under 4 years old free

Once again, if you are planning to go - PLEASE email me with your name and the number of children who will be attending. IF we do not have 15 kids and adults going, the price increase to $10 and $6. More than 15 is just a blessing.

Day at the Park!

For all of our families that attend Legacy Homeschool Cooperative.

Next Thursday, if weather permits, we will head to the park here in Gaffney. (After Co-Op ends) Bring bag lunches and some extra drinks. If you have tennis rackets, the kids can learn to play tennis. If not, just come and prepare to play! IF it rains, we will have to cancel.

Exciting NEWS!

Jodie Cogdell has agree to teach an extra class for the 1-3rd students. She will be teaching Spanish Art and some conversational Spanish. Your kids will be thrilled! Thank you JODIE!

Secondly, I am attempting to make contact with Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens. This is a possible field trip scheduled for September 24 for the K4-3rd grade class. As it stands right now, if our group is 15+ the rate will be $8.00 for adults and $4 dollars for children. If you are interested in going on this field trip, I need for you to email us and tell us who you are, how many adults will be attending with you and how many children!

AMERICAN HISTORY CLASS
Here is a link to the website that sells the books for the History Class. Cost is $68 for everything including the teachers book but without that portion, it will cost $61.90 (+ shipping). I have emailed Bright Ideas Press to see if any further discount for a Co-Op purchase. I will update as soon as I have an answer. This Class is for 4th through 7th grades.

Family Fun Day

Our final day of Co-Op has come and gone but it went out in an awesome way. I hope all of you had fun and left with satisfied tummies. We have all enjoyed this semester and we are looking forward to next fall!

As for next week... if you are having you children tested... please be there Monday at 8 am. Bring two #2 pencils already sharpened and ready to go. You may want to bring a snack for your child as well for break time. Testing will go on from Monday through Wednesday. If you ordered the CogAT as well, it will be administered on Thursday only.

Camping at Camp Croft State Park in Spartanburg... We are looking at the weekend of June 13. We would set up camp on Thursday, June 11 and come back home on June 13th. Let me know if this would be a good weekend for all of you as well. If not, we can look at the weekend before that one which would be June 4-6.

Open enrollment for next year will begin at the first week of June. Over the next month, we will be revising the handbook and updating the applications. We will send out an announcement once that is completed.

A Big Thank You!

I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your support today. Even though I was not up to par today, you all stood in for me and I thank you.

Secondly, you should receive an email from me tomorrow with all the phone numbers for our members. If you are delayed or you are not able to meet the group at 9 am at the River Bank Zoo next week, please call and let someone on the list know that has happened. Do all that is possible to be there at 9 am at the front gate.

Remember to pack your lunch. We will meet at a designated place around 12 noon for lunch. We will need to exit the park as a group and re-enter as a group.

All I can say is "WHAT AN AWESOME JOB!"

I am in AWE at the work and abilities of these children! The science fair was wonderful and I want to thank each and every student and parent for their effort and time.

Well, we must look ahead to the rest of the semester. Next week, remember that we must have payment in for the zoo trip! If we do not get enought people to go to get the group discount, we will refund your money and you can purchase your tickets via the internet.

We are in the planning stages for the fall. We do know that Spanish 101 will be offered to 4-6th grade students and 7-12th grade students. Botany for 1-3 grades, Mystery of History 1-3rd grade. Art for all grades, Movies at Literature possibly for 7-12th grades. Study skills class for 4-6th grades. There are other classes being discussed at this time. A Few Reminders.

If you are going to have your child(ren) tested this year with the IOWA testing, please send me an EMAIL. You will be required to have my tester number and dates of testing before you order. Testing will be completed on the week of April 27th.

If you plan on entering the Art Contest listed on the Geography page, the deadline is February 25!

Last day to sign you child up for the science fair is February 26! You must send me an email with the names of the children who will participate in the program. The science fair is scheduled for March 19th from 1-2:30 pm!

Good Morning to All!

It has been a wonderful week here at our home. I pray that all of you have had a wonderful week as well. Below is a list of upcoming events and other suggestions to be in prayer over!

Science Fair has been scheduled for March 19th at 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Rules and regulations will be sent to you via email upon your request. Deadline to sign up is February 26. Please send us your student's name, and we will send you the handout of rules and suggestions.
March 26 is our scheduled Spring Break. Several of the families have indicated that they are not going to be available on the following week. I made the suggestion to move the Spring Break to the following week. Please take the poll located to the right of this page and let me know your thoughts on the matter.
April 9 - is a scheduled dissection day. Please watch emails concerning costs.
April 16 - Field Trip to River Bank Zoo. This is open to other homeschooling families, grandparents, parents, etc. Prices and tentative schedules will be distributed at the cooperative soon.
Iowa Testing is Scheduled for the week of April 27. If you are planning to have your 3rd grader and up tested, please let us know. You will need to order your tests yourself. Cost of administering this test is $5.00. This helps to cover the cost of mailing the tests back to Bob Jones University. More information will be given out at the Co-Op.
Please make every effort to have your children at the Co-Op and ready for classes by 9 am. We have become very relaxed about coming into classes and we need to spend that time working on our work.
Parents, we need to be more attentive to (all) of the children during class times and break times. Several of the children, including mine, are running in the hallways and becoming very loud during working hours.

Party Time

Since the younger kids will not be able to attend the field trip to Duke Power, we are going to host a Valentine's Day Party for them. This will be held during 2nd period.

The Co-Op will purchase the cups, plates, napkins, ice and drinks for the group. Parents are encouraged to bring something for the kids to eat on this day. If you want to hand out valentine cards, please bring those as well.

A Note From Jodie

I am so proud of the young artists in my class and I wanted some forum for them to show case their work. Most art contests are associated with the public school system but I found 2 contests that are open to the public. Both contests are wildlife oriented. The 1st is a national contest with River of Words, this is an art and poetry contest. Unfortunately the deadline to enter the contest is Feb. 15th. Field Trip Opportunities are arriving!

As all of you heard on Thursday, 4th through 7th graders will be taking a trip to Duke Power soon for their Chemistry Class. Date to be announced. Cost: Free

Another possible Field trip for the Geography Class being discussed is to the Indian Reservation in Rock Hill. They are planning to participate in one of the classes. This event may be open to other homeschoolers. Date and costs to be announced!

We are heading to the Zoo in April! More than likely, we will go to River Banks Zoo in Columbia and then travel to the History Museum. More information will be forth coming on the cost and the itinerary.

Once again, we see a need to have a contact list for all of our members. This information will be handed out to all present members of Legacy. Information included on this list is your name, student's name, phone numbers including cell, and email information. Please email me your information (here) so that we I can easily compose the list by Monday.

That is all! Most of the teachers, if not all of the teachers have submitted their information to the blog concerning home work, etc. Make sure that your student looks at the homework assignment and comes to the Class prepared! Thanks!

Welcome back everyone. It was great to get back into the swing of Co-Op and we have a lot to look forward to. We have our first yearbook staff. I am really looking forward to seeing what these kids can come up with and manufacture. We also have added an link to the Year Book Staff. OK! You know that you made a few of them yourself! But Stacey recommended that I check out a website that is designed to help you lose weight. She knew of my struggles to lose weight and keep track of what I am doing. What she did not know, is that this website is an answer to prayer.

It also has nutrition guideline, menus, calorie counters, fitness trackers, goal setting, and so much more. Returning Members!

If you are returning to Legacy Homeschool Cooperative from Fall 2008, you are not required to fill out another application for the Spring. We only need the fee paid by January 9th.

Please note, on the application it still indicates that we will off Hake Grammar and Writing. I have not had the opportunity to change this application at this time. We are not offering this class in the Spring.

IOWA TESTING DATES

Please note.

This Spring, we will offer the IOWA Standardized test for our members at Legacy. We do not charge an extra fee for administrating these test to our current members. The prices for the test can be found on the BJUPress website. This year, we will process the testing materials differently. You will need to order the tests yourself. This way, you will pay Bob Jones University directly. I will supply you with my tester's number and location so that you can order these tests.

The tests need to be order four weeks prior to the testing date. No later than that! We begin testing on April 30, 2009. All tests will be shipped to my home. There will be a small fee to assist with shipping cost back to BJU. Once tests are completed, the results will be mailed directly to your home. It will not be sent back to me. This is the advantage of you purchasing your own tests.

Both Kim and I will be available to answer questions.

Here are guidelines to follow:

1) You can order the IOWA test by itself or with the COGAT. Please read on the BJUPress website concerning these tests. Make sure you read carefully and choose the one that best fits your child. The CogAT is age related and not grade leveled.

2) We will only administer the IOWA and COGAT tests for 3rd graders to 8th graders.

I am posting this at this point in time so that you can read and have plenty of time to determine if testing is right for you. In the state of South Carolina, homeschooler's are not required to test their children. Yet, it is recommended that you begin testing your child in the third grade. We plan to hold a small inservice on intrepreting your results prior to the test. Please watch the calendar for futher details on this inservice.

DO NOT ORDER YOUR TESTS AT THIS TIME!!!!

All present members, if you did not get a chance to sign up for next semester, please let me know if you are planning to attend or not attend next semester. The fee will more than likely stay the same per child. That is $15.00/child.

If you are interested in participating in the science fair that will be held in the Spring, Please pick up your information on December 4th. It will give you a guideline of what will be judged. These guidelines have been copied from the Bob Jones Site. All grade level kids can participate. An outside judge or judges will assist us in grading the exhibits.

We had planned on attending the Zoo this year and we may still be open to going. Hollywild Zoo often has a Christmas tour this time of year and I have heard that it is awesome. If you are interested in the possibility of going, please email us..

IT is still not too late! If you were planning to join us during this walk challenge but you have gotten a late start, then get up and get started! What is stopping you? Don't have time? Find time by getting up a little earlier. Or workout while your children are exercising with you. How about a walk outside with your kids? There are tons of way to get that workout in and you deserve it! You body deserves it!

This event is perfect for families and children's groups. The event provides a tour of the Historic Price House, participation in a variety of team and individual games from the early 1800s, and stories by Evelyn Parks, a locally renowned storyteller. In addition, hot dogs and marshmallows are roasted over an open fire at no additional charge. As a special treat this year, Blacksmith Bruce Mills will be on site with his portable forge demonstrating metal working techniques of the period.
Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for ages 6-18, and free for 5 and younger. All food and activities are included in the admission price. (Groups of 10 or more children who reserve tickets by October 21st, receive free admission for group leaders and assistants.)

Here is a Healthy Challenge for the Group!

Starting November 1, I challenge each of you to walk a brisk walk for 30 mins (minimum) each day for 21 days. That is it.

Secondly, I need volunteers who can take the photos that I have and work on a year book for us. You need to have some knowledge of a computer and a program that will allow you to create a photographic record of events. One such program is Photo Story 3 and it is free for download.

Next, it is time to begin thinking of next semester. If you plan to continue with us, and we pray that each of you will, I need someone to take over one of my classes as the teacher. Please pray over this and let me know if anyone can assist in this manner.

Coming in November, the Zoology class has a Dissection class scheduled. It is the owl pellet dissection where we will learn about the habits of the barn owl and attempt to reconstruct a rats skeleton. The cost will be $6.00 per student. This way, they will have their very own owl pellet to dissect. ( A large size Owl Pellet)

Please make every effort to pay for your child's pellet next week. You can write a check out to Legacy. If you are like some of us and need extra time to come up with the money, please see me at the Co-Op on Thursday.

Good Morning to Each of You!

Next week will be unique, to say the least. We still have a lot planned and we are going to have a lot of fun. Here are a few things to remember for next week...

Bookmobile is scheduled to attend Co-Op next week. Please bring your library books back to return to the Bookmobile.
Every mom is extremely important to this ministry. If you have a sick child or are not able to attend, please make sure to contact us via email. I leave to head to the Co-Op at 7:15 am. I need your information before that time.
We will take school photos on October 9th at the Co-Op. There will be a sign up sheet in the lobby on this Thursday. Please let me know if you want photos taken.
Continue to work with your kids. Your work is noticed and appreciated. You kids are learning beyond expectations.
For our healthy weights group, I will have a print out for you on Thursday. This will help you keep track of you body fat % and weight over the next several weeks. Keep working at becoming healthier. That is our goal! I will also have the scales on Thursday. :-)

A Few Items of Importance!

We are wanting to create a directory for our homeschool moms. This directory would include your name, phone number and your email address. The only individuals with access would be present members only. The advantages of everyone having this information (especially the teachers) are so that we can contact you personally if we need information. Mom's Night Out!

We want to have the opportunity to get to know all of you better. So, we are planning a Mom's night out. The time would be after 6 pm. and possibly on a Monday evening. We are not able at this time to provide daycare, so I am attempting to give everyone a chance to secure childcare if possible. Dates that I am presently looking at are September 22, 29 or October 20 0r 27. Please let me know which day would be best for you. Majority wins!

Hello Everyone!

What a great first day! I so enjoyed meeting the kids and the moms!

First order of Business:

We found a bracelet at the church. I am not sure if it belongs to a church member or a co-op member. If you think you lost a bracelet, please email me (Kathy Phillips) and tell me what it looks like. I will return it to you at the very next Co-Op.

Secondly:
Make sure you look over the blogs for class assignments and more.

Next:
We are looking at shifting PE time for the K4/K5 group to the first hour. This will give them their very own time to play together. If we do make this change, I will have a new schedule made out on Thursday for all of the parents.

Last but not LEAST!
On September 18, the Cherokee County Bookmobile will attend our Co-Op. This will give you an opportunity to grab a book to read for your kids. They are scheduled to come by every two weeks! You do not need a library card to enjoy this great opportunity.

CO-OP!
Starting This Thursday at 8:30 am!

If you have not read the blog pages yet, please make sure you read them and prepare your child for the classes. Each week, teachers are required to post homework, etc on their blogs. This saves time for the teacher but it also helps the moms/dads out there with knowing what is needed to be completed. You can highlight and print those instructions out on your printer at home as well.

We are so excited to have a full house this year. We have a lot planned, so get ready. For our first day, we will have an extended period of welcome in the morning. Please sign your family in and fill out a name tag for each of your children and yourself. This will help everyone out!

IT IS OFFICIAL!

It is hard to believe but we are maximum capacity at Legacy Homeschool Cooperative. We set a limit on the amount of students that we could serve this year and we have even exceeded it by a few.

But in reaching this milestone, we regret that we will no longer be able to accept applications for immediate placement into the Co-Op. But, we are still accepting applications and placing them on a waiting list.

We are so excited about this year!

The Excitement is Brewing!

If you are like most homeschooler's, you have either already started back to school or you are gearing up to. Either way, it is back to getting into a routine.

This is the same for the Co-Op! It is crunch time for the teachers and for the parents. Anticipation is brewing of what will happen this year at the Co-Op. If you have already joined this Co-Op, please take the time to look at the post on each class page. You will find a list of supplies that are needed for almost every class.

For others, you are going to miss out on a great opportunity to learn!

Parents, we are looking into hosting several parent conferences to assist you with some of your concerns. Classes may consist of:

1) Helping the Struggling Reader

2) How to create a transcript

3) What is needed in a Portfolio

4) What about credits for high school

5) Preparing for the ACT and SAT

and much more.

Also, remember that we will host a Curriculum fair once again in the Spring of 2009! This is a great opportunity to sell and buy curriculum for your homeschool.

One Year Adventure Novel Course

It is with some sadness in my heart, but Legacy will not host the "One Year Adventure Novel" course for the next fiscal year. We have had no response to my previous emails or posting concerning this course.

We will continue to offer the courses previously outlined on our handout. We are still open to anyone parent who wants to teach a course at the Cooperative. If you are so led, please email us and let us know what course you would like to teach or what course you would like for us to offer in the up coming years.

Spartanburg Community College

Both Kim and I will be attending a meeting with the Spartanburg Community College at the end of this month.

Spartanburg Community College, Gaffney Campus, has invited Legacy to join in on a meeting concerning homeschoolers and the college. It may lead to a working relationship between homeschooler's and the Community College. The advantages are limitless and we are excited to represent our cooperative at the meeting.

BUT, we want to hear from you concerning what you would like to see for your family. Are you interested in classes that can prepare your children for college? (Calculus, Physics, Etc.) Can you imagine a different relationship? Art classes, Music, Mechanics, etc. ? Let us know what your concerns are and what you would like to see come from this meeting. We want to be representatives of the homeschooling environment!

Even if you do not live in Cherokee County, we would love to hear from you!

Attention!

We need to hear from any homeschooling parent, whether you have indicated an interest in the past or not, who have high school level kids.
We are in prayerful consideration over offering the "One Year Adventure Novel' this fall. This course would be a one year course at our facility. The end result of the program, is a novel that your child has written. It is our hope to capture the attention of several of the local newspapers and share samples of the students works. We are also talking with an art teacher concerning helping the children create a cover for their books and possibly pictures within the their books.

But to offer this course, we need to have a minimum of five students. Even if you have attended the recent meeting, please email us at legacyhs@gmail.com with your intentions. The cost of the program is the cost you pay to purchase the materials ($200.00 + s/h). The Co-Op fee is $15.00 per student to help cover costs of supplies. (Art supplies, binding supplies)

Here is what I want to know! I am considering creating a blog page where you (those who read and belong to Legacy Homeschool Co-Op) can give reviews of books that they are reading and even share information about curriculum that they have purchased and used. It would not be a place to sale the curriculum at this point but a place where you can list your likes and dislikes of a particular curriculums.

The reason behind this... during our book sale, many individuals came for the mere purpose of talking to the individuals who had used the curriculum. They wanted first hand experience about it. I know that I have found it invaluable in the past. Information would included information about curriculum's teacher involvement, learning styles, pro's and con's, etc.

But to make this area successful, I need individuals who will post comments about a curriculum and send in their reviews of the curriculum. So, if you would not mind, please send me your comments on this post. Thanks!!!

Hello Everyone!

By this time, most of us have either finished up the school year or we are just about there. We have summer on the brain and taking a well deserved break. I know personally, that this is the time of year that I look back on what we accomplished and set goals for the coming year.

This is also the time of year when I begin running the race to set up classrooms, activities and field trips for the coming year. I ask that you keep us in prayer as we set our minds to preparing for the fall semester.

Here is a gentle reminder for those who are trying to decide if you will join us next fall. We are over half full at this present time. Once we reach our preset limit, we will not be able to accept any further applications. We also would love to have the opportunity to prepare for your child within the classes. Many of our teachers prepare materials ahead of time to help with the time spent in the classroom.

Download your application and handbook today and mail it on in. You can submit it via email or mail it via snail mail. Either way, please do not delay.

Legacy Home School Cooperative is looking to expand its horizons by offering limited high school classes. BUT, we need to know who is interested first! The class is called,

"The One Year Adventure Novel!"

I am back from camping and I am full of anticipation for next year.

I wish each of you could have gone camping with us this year. I met two wonderful homeschool mom's that lifted my soul. They encouraged me in ways that no one else has been able to.

So, now I am ready to get into this week of testing and begin looking at the summer and next fall.
