Location: The Barrett Room at Spartanburg County Public Library
Times:
Grades 3-5
check-in: 9:30 a.m.
start time: 10:00 a.m.
Grades 6- 8 check-in: 1:00 p.m.
start time : 1:30 p.m.
Eligibility: any home schooled student, grades 3-8, who resides in Spartanburg, Cherokee, or Union counties. The speller must not have reached his/her 15th birthday on or before September 1, 2007.

Grade Divisions/Spelling Lists:
Spelling lists will be divided in two grade divisions, grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. Registered participants will receive copies of each word list, via e-mail, upon receipt of paid registration. If words from the word lists are exhausted during the Bee, additional words will be used that are not on the lists.It is possible that students will compete with students from different grade divisions (ex. a 3rd grader against an 8th grader). This will be determined by the number of registered participants.

Prizes: The winner(s) of the Palmetto Home School Spelling Bee will be sent to the Herald-Journal 2008 Celebrate Community Regional Spelling Bee on
Saturday, March 8, 2008 at USC Upstate.
The champion of the Celebrate Community Regional Spelling Bee will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the 2008 Scripp’s National Spelling Bee from May 25th-May 31st, 2008.
All participants of the Palmetto Home School Spelling Bee will receive a participation certificate. In addition, prizes will be awarded to final winners. Random prizes, donated by local businesses, will be drawn.
Please note: In order to participate in the Herald-Journal’s 2008 Celebrate Community Regional Spelling Bee, an eligible home schooled student must win through the Palmetto Home School spelling bee.
